Rapid development and introduction of new technology offer wide opportunities for expansion and improvement in the care provided to patients in colon and rectal surgery. However, the traditional infrastructure for evaluating new devices, medications, diagnostics, and procedures may not be well suited to manage the advent of new information technologies and their application to colon and rectal surgery practice. This symposium will discuss emerging IT innovations including remote video review and telesurgery, Artificial Intelligence, advanced healthcare informatics and analytics, remote monitoring for home care and prehabilitation, their potential contributions to QI work, and key potential pitfalls.
