Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the role of a multidisciplinary tumor board in the management of colorectal cancer.
  • Discuss potential non-operative management of colon cancer requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Recognize the importance of multidisciplinary care in the management of rectal cancer including watch and wait protocol.

Tumor boards and multidisciplinary input play an increasing role in determining first-line treatment and subsequent course of therapy in both colon and rectal cancer. This symposium will address the role of the colorectal surgeon in academic, community, and rural settings as part of the tumor board team managing colorectal cancer patients. Specifically addressed will be a team approach to decision-making regarding Total Neoadjuvant Treatment for rectal cancer, nonoperative management of rectal cancer, and new frontiers in chemotherapeutic options for colorectal cancer.
