Artificial intelligence has become ubiquitous and plays a role in many personal and professional activities, including patient care and surgical education. As it evolves, it is likely to become a crucial component of the surgeon's everyday life, including heightened hospital efficiency, augmented surgical decision-making and training, predictive analytics for enhanced patient outcomes, and bolstered patient support and education. As with any new technology, it can also be harmful if used incorrectly or not fully understood. The purpose of this symposium is to provide an overview of artificial intelligence including its current and future uses within patient care, hospital administration, research, and surgical education.
