Shelbi Olson, MD is a current PGY4 general surgery resident at the University of Minnesota interested in colon and rectal surgery. She completed undergraduate education at Harvard University, concentrating in Human Evolutionary Biology, graduating in 2010. After one year as a volunteer teacher with WorldTeach, she worked as a clinical research assistant at the University of Kansas. She then completed medical school at University of Illinois at Chicago in 2020 in a global medicine track. After one year of academic development time involving research and clinical pursuits of colon and rectal surgery, surgical and medical education, global surgery, and clinical informatics, she is back in her fourth clinical year. She is expected to graduate from residency in 2026 and is applying for fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery this application cycle.
