Dr Chan graduated from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine in 2020 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and attained the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCSEd) in 2024. He is currently training as a resident in the General Surgery Residency Programme under the National Healthcare Group. He has a strong interest in advancing surgical outcomes and exploring the applications of artificial intelligence in the field. To date, he has authored over 70 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including more than 30 as the first author.
Dr Chan has presented his research at both local and international conferences, where he has delivered oral presentations and received recognition for his work. Among his accolades is the prestigious Young Investigator Award, which he earned at the 18th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery in 2022. Dr Chan is also a recipient of the NHG-LKCMedicine Clinician Scientist Preparatory Programme grant.
Dr Chan is dedicated to fostering a culture of research within General Surgery. During his medical school years, he served as the Division Head of General Surgery for the LKCMedicine Surgical Society, where he played an active role in promoting academic and surgical initiatives among his peers. In 2020, he served as the Committee Vice Chairperson for the Academic Portfolio of the International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS). In this role, he collaborated with international junior doctors and medical students to advance global research initiatives and cultivate a strong culture of academic inquiry. Currently, Dr Chan continues to give back to his alma mater by mentoring medical students as an alumni supervisor for the annual Year 4 scholarly project, supporting the next generation of researchers and clinicians.
