Dr. Dimitrios (Demis) Varvoglis is an aspiring academic surgeon and a research fellow at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. His research primarily focuses on health disparities and colorectal cancer. Originally from Greece, Dr. Varvoglis completed his medical degree before moving to the United States to advance his career. At UNC, Dr. Varvoglis has contributed,among other projects, to the "PeLear CCC: Proyecto Latino Contra Cáncer Colorrectal", a clinical trial aimed at identifying barriers preventing the Hispanic/Latino/Latinx population from participating in cancer clinical trials. He is committed to academic surgery with a keen interest in medical education and aspires to teach and mentor future medical professionals upon completing his surgical training in the United States.
