Sasha Suarez, MD
NAPRC Program Manager - CRC Coordinator
Lenox Hill Hospital
As a U.S. citizen and foreign medical graduate, I bring a globally informed and resilient perspective to my pursuit of a general surgery residency. My medical education, completed in Colombia, provided me with a rigorous clinical foundation and ignited my passion for surgery. During my training, I found a deep sense of purpose in the operating room—a space where precision, urgency, and teamwork converge to make an immediate impact. Since relocating to New York in 2020, I have built upon that foundation through diverse roles in both clinical and research settings. I worked as an emergency room scribe during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, where I gained firsthand experience in fast-paced, high-stress environments. I later joined Northwell Health as a Clinical Research Coordinator and now serve as Program Manager for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). In this role, I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with national standards, lead quality improvement initiatives, and support clinical research focused on colorectal cancer and minimally invasive surgical techniques. I take pride in having contributed to Lenox Hill Hospital becoming the first in Manhattan to receive NAPRC accreditation. These experiences have sharpened my leadership, communication, and analytical skills—tools I plan to carry into residency and beyond. I have presented at national conferences and co-authored publications that reflect my commitment to academic surgery and evidence-based care. My goal is to join a general surgery residency program that values collaboration, compassion, and excellence, where I can continue growing as a clinician, researcher, and future leader in surgery. With a strong work ethic, a patient-centered mindset, and a passion for innovation, I am eager to contribute meaningfully to a training program and deliver surgical care that improves outcomes and lives.
