Montserrat (Montse) Tijerina is a medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Minor in Creative Writing. Montse is currently completing a research year prior to entering her MS4 year and applying to residency. She is passionate about addressing healthcare disparities from both academic and community perspectives, improving medical education to enhance cultural and linguistic concordance, and creating opportunities in healthcare professions for students historically underrepresented in medicine. Montse is appreciative for the opportunity to present novel research with the ASCRS community and for the ability to contribute to evidence-based advances in colorectal surgery. She is grateful for the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Kinga S. Olortegui and Dr. Martin Uwah.
