Dr. Ashley Ostler Toussaint is a PGY-3 General Surgery Resident at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She earned her Doctorate of Osteopathy from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2019.
Dr. Toussaint's research interests include the role of Bone Morphogenic Protein (BMP) in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the development of BMP receptor inhibitors. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work at prominent conferences, including the AACR and the 14th International BMP Conference.
In addition to her research, Dr. Toussaint is deeply committed to resident education and wellness. She has been instrumental in launching wellness programs for both general surgery residents and attending physicians, focusing on mental health and stress management. Her efforts in improving surgical residency well-being have earned her recognition, including the Rutgers Health GME Professionalism Award.
Dr. Toussaint is actively involved in leadership roles, including serving as a member of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Wellbeing Champion and the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC). She is also the residency Ombudsmen.
Dr. Toussaint’s passion for enhancing the surgical training environment, alongside her commitment to research and leadership, makes her a valuable contributor to the field of general surgery, and future colorectal fellow applicant.
