Vashti Bandy is a general surgery resident at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, currently completing her first year of dedicated research under the direction of Dr. Jose Trevino. Her research focuses on developing animal cancer models, investigating novel cancer therapeutics, and examining patient disparities in cancer care. Dr. Bandy has a strong interest in the evolving field of colorectal surgery, particularly in advancing care for patients with metastatic peritoneal disease and in the integration of robotic surgical techniques. In addition to her research, she serves as a mentor to medical students and actively collaborates with the Injury and Violence Prevention Program (IVPP) within the Emergency General Surgery department at VCU to expand opportunities for resident engagement in community outreach. Driven by a commitment to innovation and improving outcomes for underserved populations, Dr. Bandy plans to pursue a fellowship in colorectal surgery following the completion of her general surgery residency.
