Professor & Vice Chair, Surgery
Washington State University, Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine
Spokane, WA, United States
Dr. Anjali Kumar is an ASCRS enthusiast and servant-leader. She was the former chair of the Young Surgeons Committee, and former vice chair of the Program Committee. She now serves as the director of Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. It is a position equivalent to professor and chair of surgery at this new school. She came to her home state of WA after having practiced colorectal surgery for 6 years at the other Washington — Washington DC. There, she ran NIH trials at her site for non-operative treatment of rectal cancer and management of anal pre-cancers. In Washington state, she has worked clinically as a colorectal surgeon part time in several cities, including MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, the VA Mann Grandstaff in Spokane, a private practice in Edmonds, and Richland’s Kadlec Regional Medical Center — now a level 2 trauma center. Washington State University’s College of Medicine is located in the four corners of our state, so it has been advantageous for her to see her students and faculty at three of the four campuses on a weekly basis. The college has been graduating over a dozen future surgeons each year since 2021.
