Dr. Sonia Ramamoorthy is a Professor of Surgery and Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UC San Diego Health System. She completed both her clinical research fellowship and her general surgery residency at UC San Diego and a Colorectal Surgery fellowship at Washington University’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She earned her MD/MS at Boston University School of Medicine and her BA degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently completing her MBA at the UCSD Rady's School of Management. Dr. Ramamoorthy’s research interests include colorectal cancer and the application of new technology to colorectal surgery and quality-related outcomes. She has authored over a hundred papers and chapters in colorectal surgery and remains an enthusiastic innovator and educator in the field of minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Ramamoorthy has served as a Member-at-Large, Treasurer, Vice-President and President-elect on the ASCRS Executive Council and is the current President of ASCRS.
