Dr Michelle Murday is the Department Chair of Colon and Rectal Surgery at St Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, the Program Director of the UHCI-St Marks Hospital Colorectal Fellowship and the DIO of the UHCI-St Marks Hospital Institution. She received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical College where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Florida Gainesville and concluded her advanced surgical fellowship training at the Colon & Rectal Clinic of Orlando.
She serves on the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the ABCRS Executive and Governing Boards, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery Continuing Education Committee and Self Assessment Committees. She has written questions for the board, the in-service training exam, the colon and rectal self-education program (CARSEP) and questions for CME credit for the Diseases of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She has served on the Association of Program Directors in Colon and Rectal Surgery and served as the women’s liaison for the Utah Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. She provides expert surgical management of colon and rectal cancer and inspired St Mark’s hospital to work toward their National Accreditation in Rectal Cancer through the Committee on Cancer.
Dr. Murday has a passion for education having spent 6 years as a hands-on science teacher for elementary school children, and years as a judge for National Speech and Debate on the local, state and national level. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their sons hiking, cycling, traveling, cooking and gardening. She was trained as a classical pianist and enjoys “noodling” on the piano when she finds a moment of spare time.
