Rectal prolapse is usually a surgical condition and one that can be difficult to treat. Patients can often have an underlying factors such as pelvic floor dysfunction, connective tissue disorder, or extreme age. Despite excellent surgical technique, prolapse can recur. Patients also often have multi-compartment prolapse, which complicates the approach to repair. During this symposium, we will discuss factors in selecting the surgical approach to patients with prolapse and focus on those that have developed recurrent prolapse or have multicompartment prolapse.
