Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Discuss the management of complications of colorectal cancer, including strictures, perforation, and obstructing peritoneal disease in the setting of metastases.
Discuss aggressive management of unresectable liver metastases, including resection, liver-directed therapy, and liver transplant.
Recognize what should be done with the primary colorectal tumor in the setting of metastatic disease when it is asymptomatic.
Establish palliative management strategies, personalized chemotherapy options, and management of symptoms of progressive metastatic disease.
Predicting a clinical course in metastatic colorectal cancer is challenging due to heterogeneity in tumor spread and biologic features of both the primary tumor and metastases. This symposium addresses the management of complications of primary tumors in the setting of metastatic disease, strategies for symptom management in progressive metastatic disease, and aggressive management options for unresectable liver metastases, including liver-directed therapy and liver transplantation.
