Patients often will “do their own research” and decide to pursue alternative medical therapies to treat a variety of conditions from IBS to cancer. It can be difficult to stay up to date on these therapies to understand the risks, benefits, and whether there is any scientific evidence behind the treatments. This symposium will give an overview of popular alternative therapies and whether there is any data to support their use. Taking care of patients who refuse your recommendations can be difficult, so we will also discuss how to work with these patients.
